ISfIM organized a seminar on 4-Levels of Scaling Up Ultrafast Laser Processes on 17 November 2023 at School of Mechanical Engineering, Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. The seminar was given by Dr Dennis Haasler, Group Leader Micro and Nano Structuring at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Germany.
Lecture Abstract:
Ultrafast laser processes offer a high precision and nearly every material can be processed. However, the productivity of these processes is rather low which prevents its introduction into many mass production parts. One of the main research topics at our group at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Germany is the investigation of how to scale up ultrafast laser processes to reach the productivity necessary for mass production. In this presentation I would like to present some approaches of how ultrafast laser material processes can be scaled up and what the limits of each approach might be.
Speaker Biography:
Dr Dennis Haasler is Group Leader Micro and Nano Structuring at the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT in Germany. In this group, about 25 researchers focus on ultrafast laser material processing and cover the entire spectrum of this research field. Mr Haasler studied aeronautical engineering at the RWTH Aachen University in Germany and obtained his PhD in 2022 also at the Fraunhofer ILT. The topic of his PhD studies was deep drilling with high power ultrafast lasers.
